Farewell to the Central Election Commission

Kyiv, September 18. IFES Ukraine bids farewell to the outgoing members of the Central Election Commission (CEC). After two important national elections both praised by international and domestic observers for being administered in line with democratic standards and in respect of fundamental freedoms, the membership of the Commission will now be fully renewed. The efforts of the outgoing CEC in securing a smooth transition of power in Ukraine have not gone unnoticed.

US Embassy praised the election administration for its impartial and successful delivery of the 2019 parliamentary and presidential elections in a recent tweet.

“Despite a narrow timeframe, the Central Election Commission (CEC) administered the early elections in a technically efficient manner, approved the main procedural rules within the legal deadlines and overcame challenges created by the procurement rules and deadlines.”

“ENEMO notes that the CEC worked promptly and efficiently in organizing the process under a strenuous agenda and difficult deadlines. Its sessions were mostly open to the public, accessed by registered observers, and live-streamed by local civil society organizations. Official resolutions taken by the CEC were posted on their website in a timely manner. The CEC operated in an overall transparent manner.”

IFES can truly say that it has been an honor to cooperate with the CEC – its chairwoman Tatyana Slipachuk, the commissioners and highly professional staff – over the past year. IFES with support from international partners will continue to provide long-term technical assistance to strengthen elections and further democratic development in Ukraine. IFES stands ready to work closely with the new CEC and its chair to further strengthen Ukraine’s good track record for professional, transparent and well-administered elections.
